Evidence challenged

EVIDENCE was challenged in court Thursday over an allegedly stolen Government cheque worth more than half a million dollars.

It came during a pre-trial hearing at the Magistrates Court, Honiara..

Simon Tigota and Betris Wale are facing charges in relation to the cheque, which was alleged to have been cashed by them. Tigota denies two charges; forgery and larceny, and Ms Wale one count of uttery.

Edward Cade, lawyer for Tigota, challenged the prosecution as to how evidence was collected. Prosecutor Jim Seuika called Police investigator Joseph Siapu, who gave evidence about the recorded interviews he did.

Chief Magistrate Leonard Maina adjourned the matter to Monday.
