Activities marking the 25th anniversary of Malaita Province's Second Appointed Day this Friday have started in the provincial capital, Auki.
Deputy Provincial Secretary and Chairman of the organising committee for events in Auki, Robert Kaua, says programs have started last Sunday with a combine service.
He says sporting activities in football and volley ball started today for those from surrounding areas to Auki.
Mr Kaua says trade and cultural shows will start tomorrow and to culminate with the main official celebrations on Friday.
He says Malaita Day will also be celebrated in regional centres in the province.
"By Friday 15th, simultaneously people from Luaniua, Malu'u, Atori, Afio will celebrate together with those in Auki. People in the north, east and southern regional should go to their regional centres to take part in activities their government is hosting."
Mr Kaua says Malaita Provincial Assembly members are encouraged to go to the provincial centres to be with their people during the celebrations of the provincial day.
