Guadalcanal Premier Stephen Panga has called for calm and patience as authorities take steps to reconcile concerned parties following the death of a Guadalcanal man recently at the Honiara Central market.
A man from Malaita has been apprehended by police and in relation to the death of the man.
Mr Panga in his appeal says people should let the law take its course and justice be done.
He also reveals a letter of compensation demand has been received from men who are said to be former Guadalcanal militants.
Mr Panga says he is already working to organise a reconciliation ceremony involving the family of the victim and the accused.
The Premier says he had discussed with the Prime Minister, Derek Sikua.
Mr Panga says he plans to discuss the matter with his Malaita counterpart, Richard Na’amo Irosaea.
Mr Panga says these efforts should also be allowed to happen in an atmosphere of calm.
But, Mr Panga says while he calls for calm and patience, the Province cannot allow such brutal attacks of his people to happen again.
He says the Province is committed to the reconciliation process and gaining peace in the country, because this is the way forward to preventing such attacks in the future.
